KENT – Kent State University Athletics has formally entered into an agreement with University Hospitals (UH) as the Preferred Healthcare Provider for the Golden Flashes.

As the Preferred Healthcare Provider for Kent State Athletics, UH will provide a complete multi-disciplinary team of physician specialists to Kent State student-athletes.

“We are excited to announce this partnership with University Hospitals,” said KSU Director of Athletics Joel Nielsen. “UH is an innovator in the field of sports medicine, making an impact at all levels of athletics in our region. Student-athlete wellness is a top priority for our athletic department and our partnership with UH emphasizes our commitment to their health and safety.”

The agreement stipulates that UH will provide medical counsel and coverage for over 400 student-athletes who compete at Kent State.

“I believe the sports medicine physicians bring a new enthusiasm to our athletic department and for our student athletes,” said KSU Director of Sports Medicine Trent Stratton. “Their experience with college athletics is immense and we are fortunate to be partnered with them. Along with the orthopedic agreement with Crystal Clinic, we have a tremendous physician network consisting of plenty of specialists that understand college athletics.”

UH is deeply rooted in Northeast Ohio sports and is the health care provider for the Mid-American Conference and the Cleveland Browns. UH became the official health care partner of the Cleveland Browns in 2014 and is responsible for providing comprehensive medical care to players and their families as well as any urgent care required by fans at the First Energy stadium.

“We are looking forward to our relationship with Kent State Athletics to provide them with the most advanced level of health care for their student athletes,” said James Voos, MD, Division Chief, Sports Medicine at UH Cleveland Medical Center. “We are proud to support Kent State’s mission to provide athletes with the safest environment possible to participate in sports at the highest level.”
