UH Clinical Update - January 2018

Kiranpreet Khurana, MD

As a specialist in male infertility, urology and male reconstruction, Kiranpreet Khurana, MD, has much to offer men facing low testosterone, erectile dysfunction or unexplained testicular pain, among other issues. But first she needs to establish a rapport.

“My biggest strength is making the patient comfortable while talking about some very sensitive issues,” she says. “Some men tend to be hesitant about seeing a female physician to talk about sensitive issues. But as soon as they meet me, they do feel at ease because I can have a frank conversation with them and make them feel comfortable. I always try to answer all their questions and decrease their anxiety.”

Now in her second year at University Hospitals, Dr. Khurana is Director of Men’s Health/Oncofertility at UH Ahuja Medical Center. She sees patients and operates there, with additional office hours at the medical office building at the corner of Cedar and Brainard. Dr. Khurana specializes in male reproductive health including infertility treatment, fertility preservation, oncofertility, vasectomy, vasectomy reversal, varicocele, low testosterone, sexual dysfunction, erectile dysfunction and Peyronie’s disease.

Dr. Khurana also specializes in advanced treatment options for erectile dysfunction and incontinence, including placement of prostheses. Additionally, she performs open, endoscopic and robotic genitourinary reconstructive surgeries for urethral and ureteral strictures, scrotal lymphedema, penile cancer, urinary diversions and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

As a surgeon, Dr. Khurana is skilled in various techniques including microsurgical vasectomy reversals, advanced sperm retrieval techniques, microscopic and laparoscopic varicocele repair and electroejaculation. She is one of just two physicians in Northeast Ohio who perform microscopic spermatic cord denervation surgery as a treatment for testicular pain, which strips the nerve causing the pain.

Dr. Khurana earned her undergraduate degree at Montclair State University, Upper Montclair, New Jersey with summa cum laude honors. She earned her medical degree at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and was selected during that degree to work for a year with scientist urologic surgeons at National Institutes of Health. She completed her residency training in urology at Cleveland Clinic and her fellowship training in male infertility, andrology and genitourinary reconstruction at New York University Langone Medical Center.
